Quick Kitchen Organization Tips

When I first moved into my new house about three years ago I didn’t really have any ideas how to organize. Plus with my new house being about one thousand square feet bigger than my apartment I had more than enough space for the few things I had. As time went by however, I found that I kept more and more stuff. Now after figuring our how to organize my kitchen I thought I’d pass a few tips on to you.
I’m going to start with what I’m sure we all have, the junk draw. For me this also happens to be my silverware draw. If I didn’t have a place for something right at the moment while cleaning just gets thrown in that draw. To organize first take everything out and separate into piles. My piles were pens, chap stick, tools, toothpicks, and garbage. You know what I’m talking about the items that when you first get them you hate to throw away but really have no need for them such as birthday cards. I then took my silverware holder washed it and placed in the front corner of my draw. Then I took a small cardboard box cut off the top and put it in the back for all of my pens and tape. That left the tools which I put back in the garage where they belong and my chap sticks were placed back.
The spice cabinet: I don’t know about yours but before my organization I would just push the spices in and when ever I need one I would just pull everything out until I found the one I needed. This got old fast. Start again by pulling everything out of the cabinet and washing down the shelf. My spices happen to be on the bottom of my corner cabinet so I have plenty of space all the way in the back. So I found a tabletop lazy susan and placed it on the bottom shelf for my spices. For the size I just measured the smallest section across and made sure my lazy susan was at least and inch smaller so It would fit. Then I put my spices on top of the lazy susan, I tired to alphabetize them; we shall see how long that lasts.
I have a very small cabinet in my kitchen that we use as a medicine cabinet slash cook books. We were only using two shelves for the longest time. I was going though on my cleaning kick and realized that I wasn’t using all of the shelves. So all I had to do was go out to the store and buy the little metal lip devices that allow the shelve to be places on top of it and can be adjusted depending on how many holes there are. That was a quick fix that made a huge difference.
I have found that when I’m in an organization mood that I can spend a whole afternoon getting the little things done. If you just move on to the next thing before you sit down it makes it a whole lot easier to get it all done in one day. I have always tried to keep a clean house and keeping things organized has helped me keep it clean longer.
