Eric Javits: To Be Chic from His Life, Creation, and Product Line
The Creator
As early as the 1920s, Eric Javits’ family was already into style and fashion. His grandmother, Lily Javits, was the first hat artist that made numerous designs for the Shubert Organization and other famous actresses such as Mae West. Eric Javits took his inspiration from his grandmother who exposed him to the world of art at the early age of 5 years old. She would often bring him to her studio to look into her paintings. He graduated from a prestigious school of design in Rhode Island in 1974. It was then that he started his career with sculptural improvisation. Like his grandmother, he also began making hats, first for the flight attendants of the United Airlines, to a series of department stores in America, and then to specialty chains namely the Louis Féraud. Drawing great inspiration from his grandmother, Eric Javits named his own label, the Lily J. line. And this is where Eric Javits began his journey.
